The David Ortiz Children’s Fund has a local coordinator who works closely with schools, churches, and community leaders to help identify kids who may need heart care. When a child is flagged, the coordinator teams up with CEDIMAT Hospital to arrange local screenings or transportation to the capital for treatment.

Twice a year, DOCF and CEDIMAT also conduct rural outreach trips to underserved areas, bringing cardiac care to communities that rarely have access.
One example is Montecristi, a province in the far northwest where 61% of residents live in poverty and there’s only one pediatrician. DOCF supports screenings there to help reach kids who might otherwise go undiagnosed and untreated.
